Here is a glimpse of what I do in a field of privacy. I like to make kernels and seeds sprout, plus identify what plant this or that could be. Prior to all planting in 2020, I read about plants and I was searching databases. Regional maps of possible future climate inspire me to collect fruits and veggies. I extract the seed and let them grow in tissue and glasses, until I find sprouts.
On the photo left, you see a plant I found in the parsley. I hope, it is okro, which I collected and simply spread in the earth. It didn’t grow okro in the glass, so I tried to distribute it to herb pots. Controlling the plants today, I saw, that the sunflower roots began to grow out of the pots ground. I will find a bigger one for them.
Apricots, cherries and peaches, as well as watermelons didn’t grow out of their kernels, yet. Sometimes, they take some eight weeks. I wait for more organic peaches, I will try to place in the earth directly. Aloe plants like the heat, they need more sandy earth and stones underneath; small water, like once a week.
Here, on the right there is an overall shot of the most interesting plant babies: The lemons, I know. It seems, that the wind brought one or two more – greens. I like the mango very much, it starts to develop leaves in three places from the stem. Pineapples rooting in the water didn’t work, but the one in the earth grows. I hope that this small sprout will be a kiwi tree, the other little things should be apples.
They grow slowly, so I give them organic fertilizer once a week. Eggs shells, beer, and similar things help the young plants to grow. Some of the small sprout pots are covered, when the sun is fully shining on them around twelve. It is much too hot on the window, so I will research more plants from Africa: Plants which like cold nights and strong sun during day. Maybe indigo works, and what I think of additionally, is coconut and cocao. For cocoa I need more steamy climate, maybe I built a little lake for it.
Here is the little I-hope-to-be-Kiwi. It didn’t grow in the main pot, I threw it away. By next month, I will care for some clay pots and additional earth to give the plants room to develop.
For the future, I know that not all seeds sprout, but patience in spraying them with water and taking them in in the night, helps. My strategy for future trees is to cut the fruits first, prepare tissues and glasses. Then do the packing and watering job, and hide the glasses in dark and cool places. Respectively, place some in the earth directly. – Then eat.
I found these websites in the net to refer to the region of Vienna and Lower Austria with possible developments of tropical climate: https://data.ccca.ac.at/dataset/climamap-climate-indizes-karten-niederoesterreich-wien-v02 . This page is there to research plants all over the world: https://plantnet.org/ . Furthermore, I recommend groups in the net to learn about planting trees, veggies and fruits.
